Last night ended rather entertainingly in the end! Short of money, I tried to find a touristic menu - often these give you three courses and a drink for around 3 pounds, when buying a main à la carte would cost at least that! I was a little pressured into a restaurant just off the main square, but not before I had negotiated unlimited free fruit juice with the meal. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with the meal: the cream of quinoa soup was very good (soups are fantastic here) but the rest was rather boring and dry. What made the night a little more exciting was the drunk waiter - it was his birthday and was 56 years old. When I said I was from London his eyes lit up: he worked there when he was seventeen! He applied for a job at a resturant called the Ponte Vecchio near Earls Court Station; they initially turned him down because he wasn't Italian but after two days of eating nothing they eventualy gave him the job. I said that in April I had visited the really Ponte Vecchio in Florence: he misunderstood to think that I had visited the very same restaurant he worked at and got all tearful! After a bit more chatting he gave me a free glass of wine and we chatted with the chef - not really sure what they were saying! Cusco continues to be an amazing place.
